Beeswax

When bees go about their business making honey they first need to think about how they will store it. Honey is stored in hexagonal cells made from wax secreted through the honey bee's glands.

It takes a lot of work for the bees to build their beeswax.

Fact: The honey bees must consume at least 7 pounds of honey (nectar) to produce 1 pound of beeswax.

When beekeepers extract honey, wax comes along with it. When the honey separates and gets drained off we are left with bits of wax from the comb and cappings'. Beekeepers do not want to waste anything the bees work so hard to make.

The uses for beeswax are endless. Beeswax is most popular when we add a wick and make a pure natural candle. Beeswax is used as a key ingredient for many cosmetics, arts and crafts, and blacksmithing.
